Michael Morpurgo Month 2013 sees a month-long celebration of Michael Morpurgo’s wonderful stories, marking his 70th birthday this year. At Bonnygate we will be celebrating this during assemblies and in class. Members of staff will be sharing parts from their favourite Michael Morpurgo stories during assemblies throughout November. Within class children will have to opportunity to read some of his amazing stories and create work linked to them. We will be celebrating a different story theme each week.
Mrs Jarvis began Michael Morpurgo Month on Monday by sharing The Butterfly Lion with the children in assembly.
Bertie rescues an orphaned white lion cub from the African veld. They are inseparable until Bertie is sent to boarding school far away in England and the lion is sold to a circus. Bertie swears that one day they will see one another again, but it is the butterfly lion which ensures that their friendship will never be forgotten.
Mrs Jarvis said, “This is a book full of adventure and you won’t want to put it down, that’s a common theme with Michael Morpurgo books. He has a way of writing that makes you believe that if you put the book down, something big will happen whilst you’re not reading”.
